Prevent falls
Did you know?
Each year, more than 700 children under four years old are admitted to BC hospitals due to falls. Of these, more than half have head or brain injuries. Eighty per cent of falls injuring young children happen at home.
You can prevent falls
use a rubber mat or non-slip stickers to make your bath less slippery
use safety straps to keep your child secured in a high chair
install stair gates at the top and bottom of stairs
wipe up spills quickly in the kitchen and bathroom
keep one hand on the baby at all times during diaper changes -- babies can easily roll off of a bed or table
always secure your child with a belt or harness when using shopping carts
tape foam or sponge over counter and table corners to protect heads from bumps
move furniture away from windows to prevent children from climbing out
