Prevent playground injuries
Did you know?
Falls are the main cause of playground injuries. Each year in BC, 550 children are hospitalized due to falls from playground equipment.
You can prevent playground injuries
wear rubber-soled shoes
remove drawstrings and scarves from children's clothing
teach children never to cross in front of or behind a moving swing
beware of open S-hooks which can allow swing seats to fall off their hangers
avoid using metal slides that face the sun -- these slides can get hot enough to burn the skin
ensure that climbing equipment has guardrails and handrails to prevent falls
ensure that the surface beneath the playground is shock-absorbent material such as sand, pea gravel, wood chips, or similar materials
