Safety for toddlers
Did you know?
Toddlers like to imitate adult behaviour and toddlers are still too young to understand or remember about danger.
You can prevent the major causes of injury.
Falls
move a toddler out of a crib and into a larger bed before he or she is tall enough to climb over the rails
use a rubber bath mat or non-slip stickers in the bottom of the bathtub
Scalds
consider installing scald protectors, special faucet attachments that turn off the hot water if it reaches a high temperature
do not let your toddler play around a stove or oven where hot food is cooking
Poisoning
keep household cleaners, alcohol, cigarettes, perfume, mouthwash, paint, vitamins, and medicine out of a baby's reach
Choking
cut hard or solid foods into very small pieces and feed children while they are sitting quietly, not walking or running around
Drowning
always supervise toddlers near ponds, pools, ditches, and at the beach -- more drownings occur around age two than at any other age
