Safety with babysitters

You can prevent the major causes of injury.

Choose a babysitter who:
  • has experience in caring for other children the same age as your child
  • has taken a babysitters' or first aid course
  • has references who were satisfied with the sitter's work
Show the babysitter:
  • where to find light switches, telephones, fire extinguisher, flashlight, and first aid supplies
  • how to operate appliances or equipment safely
  • where emergency numbers are kept
Remind the babysitter to:
  • supervise children at all times
  • check sleeping children often
  • keep the radio or television low enough to hear the children

Help the babysitter to:
  • understand your child's stage of development
