	BC Children's Hospital Clinical Areas Critical Care The pediatric Critical Care Unit provides care for patients requiring close observation, multiple system support and life support. Info Brochure Emergency The Emergency department has a variety of areas of specialty, such as trauma room, fast track and OBS (observation area). Inpatient Unit 3B & 2B Medical oncology units for patients with cancer; 2B has 10 beds and 3B has 14 beds. Patients who are more acutely ill and those undergoing Hematopoetic Stem Cell Transplants are cared for on 3B. Inpatient Unit 3F 3F cares for patients with medical renal, endocrine and metabolic issues. Patients undergoing renal transplants are cared for on this unit. Inpatient Unit 3M Specialty Medicine 3M is a 28 bed unit with a specialized focus on respiratory and cardiac sciences. Children's Heart Centre Inpatient Unit 3R Neurosciences and Surgery This 32 bed unit has a specialized focus on neurology and surgical patients. It is a fast-paced and busy environment that provides opportunity to work with a variety of complex cases. The surgical subspecialty services include: Dental/Oral Surgery; Ear, Nose, and Throat; General Surgery; Gynecology; Neurosurgery; Ophthalmology; Orthopedics; Plastics and Burns; Thoracic; Urology; and Vascular. Specialized care provided on 3R includes: caring for infants less than 1 month of age on a continuous opioid infusion post-24 hours of initiation; caring for children with burns; caring for children with epidurals; caring for children with external ventricular drains (EVD); caring for children on a midazolam infusion; ICP monitoring for stable patients; post-operative care for term infant less than 14 days old; video intensive monitoring for assessment of seizures. Medical Day Unit MDU provides care to children requiring investigational drug therapies, studies, infusions. Renal Unit The Renal unit provides care to children requiring hemodialysis. For more information visit the Nephrology site Mental Health The mental health areas provide care to children and youth with complex and emergency mental health needs, on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Nursing Resource Team (NRT) A team of pediatric nurses that work in all the pediatric units on the third floor. There may be situations to support the Emergency department, depending on your competencies. Surgical Suite Services The Surgical Suites provides services for a wide range of surgical procedures. There is a specialty BCIT program offered to work in the OR. Surgical Day Care Unit (SDCU) is a fast paced area providing care to children who do not require admission for their surgical procedure. Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) is the recovery room. Parents are encouraged to join their children to comfort them post-op Ambulatory Clinics The ambulatory clinics are numerous and varied. They offer a variety of services including oncology day treatment, surgical follow-up, seizure management & follow-up, endocrine and diabetes care to name a few. There are several clinic nurses and clinicians who work in these areas.
