At BC Children’s Hospital, the Advanced Symptom and Palliative Care Team provides support to health care teams and families with managing symptoms and talking about goals of care. Further support from Canuck Place Children’s Hospice helps us care for children and families.Symptom management throughout the child’s illness sometimes requires advanced interventions, as well as psychosocial support. The team uses pharmacological (ie: analgesics including high dose opiates, adjuvant medications, etc.) and non-pharmacological interventions to modify pain and other symptoms. Support is provided in the community, outpatient, inpatient and hospice settings for pain and symptom management, and end-of-life care.
