Written referrals from physicians requiredAll our programs and clinics require written referrals from physicians. For the admission criteria for specific clinics, please follow the links in our “Programs and Services” section. Each referral is reviewed by our clinical team as soon as possible. Once a referral has been reviewed, we communicate in writing to the patient family and the referring physician. If we are unable to place your child, we will recommend alternate community resources. What happens once a referral is accepted? If the referral is accepted, you will receive a letter confirming that your child is on a waiting list for one of our programs. You will also receive an intake package which may include questionnaires for parents and teachers to complete. When an appointment becomes available, you will be contacted by telephone. Wait times vary depending on the program.
We try to make our outpatient department comfortable and friendly for children, youth and families. There are toys in the play room and waiting room. Volunteers help us entertain the children while they are waiting for their appointments. However, volunteers are not always available and are not responsible for babysitting children. Therefore, we ask that you arrange to bring someone along to look after your child if you will be speaking to the doctor alone. First appointments may be one to two hours long. You will be notified of the length when the appointment is booked. Follow-up appointments are generally one hour long. Please bring any school records or health records that may be helpful in understanding your child's problem. Bring any previous psychiatric or psychological assessments or learning assessments. If you have not already mailed them, please bring the symptom inventories and parent questionnaires that were mailed to you with your intake package. If you need to cancel your appointment, call us at 604-875-2010. We would appreciate at least 48 hours notice, but please give us as much notice as possible so that we can offer that time to another child and family.Clinic hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Group programs are generally held in late afternoon and early evening.
