Medication Information

The handouts attached to the following links will help you understand each medication and how it can be used as a part of a treatment plan with children and adolescents. You may wish to share this information with your family members to help them to understand your treatment options. Since every person's needs are different, it is important that you follow the advice provided to you by your own doctor, nurse and /or pharmacist and speak to them if you have any questions about this medication.

ADHD medications

An important part of managing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the use of medication for treatment. The standard medications currently used do not cure ADHD. The ultimate goal with medication is to improve functioning by reducing the core symptoms of ADHD (inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity). Medications work relatively quickly but have several side effects and risks.

For information on these medications and other treatment strategies for ADHD, a booklet, Information on Treating ADHD (PDF 139KB), can be used as a guide to complement advice given by your doctor, psychologist, nurse and /or pharmacist.
