The Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Emergency Unit (CAPE) accepts patients from across BC, but to be admitted they must be considered certifiable under the Mental Health Act. Admissions must come from an emergency ward and must be seen first by a psychiatrist or, in those hospitals where this is not possible, the emergency physician.
CAPE also serves a teaching function for UBC residents in psychiatry and senior medical students.
CAPE staff values the positive working relationship we have with the general mental health community, particularly the child and adolescent crisis teams in the Lower Mainland.
