Coping with anxiety
The Coping with Anxiety Group is a psycho-educational group for latency-age children based on the
Taming Worry Dragons
book by Jane Garland and Sandra Clark. There are six weekly one-hour sessions for the children and two sessions for the parents. The children’s group focuses on understanding and identifying anxiety and how it affects thoughts, behaviour and your body, and on learning a range of coping techniques that children can adapt and tailor to meet their own needs. A number of fun projects are used to facilitate the learning process such as preparing a kit to trap “worry dragons” before they wreak havoc.
The parents’ group focuses on supporting their children in their battle against problematic worry.
