Referrals

The Neuropsychiatry Clinic accepts patients with conditions that require the special expertise of the members of the clinic.

All referred patients must go through the intake procedure to determine whether they are appropriate for the clinic. A written medical referral is required.  No case will automatically be taken on for continuing care.

Some examples of appropriate referrals include:
  • neurodevelopmental disorders with associated emotional, behavioural, and social problems;
  • tic disorders;
  • behavioural and emotional problems associated with brain injury;
  • epilepsy with associated emotional or behavioural problems;
  • psychiatric problems associated with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders
  • metabolic and genetic disorders with associated emotional, behavioural, and social problems.

Where the primary focus of the referral fits the mandate of another clinic, the alternate clinic will be suggested to the referring physician.

Training

Along with educating children, adolescents and their families about their conditions, we also provide professional education and development, particularly to medical students, residents and trainees from other disciplines. We offer opportunities for interdisciplinary discussion and collaboration and we have established links with other neuropsychiatry programs, provincially, nationally, and worldwide.
