Child & Youth Mental Health
The Child and Youth Mental Health Program at BC Children's Hospital (Oak Street site) is a provincial resource providing mental health assessment and treatment for BC and Yukon children, youth, and their families.
We strive for excellence through the process of continuous quality improvement. Through leadership, research, and training, we assist in the delivery of all mental health services in the province.
The program includes both inpatient and outpatient clinical services. We require a written physician referral.
Our programs complement community-based mental health centres by providing specialized consultation, outreach, and education services.
If you or your child wants to be referred to our programs, you need to talk to your doctor, who can make a written referral if he or she believes it is appropriate.
In case of emergency
Children and youth experiencing a mental health emergency are advised to attend the emergency room of their closest community hospital. Within Vancouver city, children under 17 years of age should attend the emergency room at Children’s, and those aged 17 and above should attend the emergency room at Vancouver General Hospital.
