Bio
Dr. Walter J. Duncan, is a senior cardiologist in the Cardiac Sciences Program and Children’s Heart Centre of BC Children’s Hospital, as well as Director of Post Graduate Medical Education in the Division of Cardiology. His main interests are in clinical cardiology, as well as in medical education and echocardiography.
Dr. Duncan was born and raised in Saskatchewan where he obtained his MD. Following specialty and sub-specialty training in Toronto at the Hospital for Sick Children, he then assumed a position as director of the echocardiography laboratory in 1979. In 1982 he returned to Saskatchewan as an associate professor. After eight years in Saskatchewan, he was appointed as division head of a new cardiac facility at Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario where he worked until 1997. Since 1998, he has been at BC’s Children’s Hospital and at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Duncan continues to have a focus in medical education at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. Through the 1990’s he was an examiner and later the chief examiner in the sub-specialty examinations for pediatric cardiology.

Shubhayan Sanatani

Bio
Dr. Shubhayan Sanatani is the pediatric cardiac electrophysiologist at Children’s Heart Centre. His primary focus is the care of patients with arrhythmias and devices.
Dr. Sanatani completed his medical degree at the University of British Columbia after completing an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. He went on to do a Pediatrics Residency at Queen’s University before returning to do a Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship. Following this, he pursued further subspecialty training in Electrophysiology at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children and St. Paul’s Hospital. He joined the medical staff in 2001 as an assistant professor in the Department of Pediatrics and the Director of the Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology Services at the Children’s Heart Centre at BC Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Sanatani has a clinical and research focus in electrophysiology. He has a special interest in supraventricular tachycardia, post-operative arrhythmias, and sudden death. He is a member of the Heart Rhythm Society (formerly the North American Society for Pacing and Electrophysiology) as well as the Canadian Sudden Arrhythmic Death Society Medical Advisory. He collaborates regularly with the Section of Electrophysiology at St Paul’s Hospital.

Bio
Dr. Brian Sinclair is a native British Columbian, born and raised in Vancouver. He received his medical degree from the University of Calgary in 1986, returning to BC to complete his training in Pediatrics and Cardiology at BC Children’s Hospital. He completed his training with a year of advanced echocardiography training in Oregon. In 1995, he became the Director of Echocardiography at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario a position he held for seven years. From 2002 to the present he has been living and working in Victoria, with a part time appointment at BC Children’s. His clinical work provides cardiac non-invasive services within the Vancouver Island Health Authority. As Chief of Pediatrics, he carries a significant role in the expanding pediatric services on Vancouver Island.

Special interests
Clinical cardiology, with a special emphasis on fetal echocardiography. Areas of research include exercise physiology, utility of digital echocardiography, and the use of echo in the assessment of fetal physiology and cardiac function. Clinical and didactic teaching roles remain a significant part of Dr. Sinclair’s academic interests, and with the expansion of the distributed medical school faculty, he participates actively in the Island Medical Program.
