Heart Transplant Clinic
The Heart Transplant Clinic is a multidisciplinary program established in 1994. This program provides care to infants and children before and after cardiac transplants. Children’s does not routinely perform pediatric cardiac transplants; however, strong ties have been established with The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Ontario and the Stollery Children’s Hospital (part of the Western Canadian Children’s Heart Network) where cardiac transplants are performed.
The Heart Transplant Clinic has a collaborative relationship with the adult cardiac transplantation program at St. Paul’s Heart Centre in Vancouver. Dr. Human is an active member of the International Pediatric Transplantation Society that provides additional academic and clinical support to this program.
The Heart Transplant Program is part of Children’s Solid Organ Transplantation Clinic. This program is supported by the BC Transplant Society. Out-of-province referrals for cardiac transplants are facilitated by BC Transplant Society, with additional support for children and their families by The David Foster Foundation.
The Heart Transplant Clinic is held twice each month. A comprehensive, multidisciplinary and family-centred outpatient assessment is provided at the clinic.
