Welcome to Special Products Distribution Centre!

SPDC is a specialty shop that carries an extensive line of nutritional products and feeding-related supplies for children and adults with special dietary needs.  We have a Registered Dietitian on staff as well as knowledgeable associates who are dedicated to excellent customer service.  All proceeds generated by SPDC go towards funding hospital programs at Children's & Women's Health Centre.

The Nestle family of products will be undergoing many changes in the upcoming weeks/months.  Please see below for a summary.

  • Beneprotein has a new look!  The label has changed to a blue and white one, and is no longer under the Resource family name.  The formulation is the same.
  • Vivonex Plus, Vivonex Pediatric, and Tolerex packaging will all change colour.  No change in formulation. 
  • Packaging for several formulas will change from a can to a tetra prisma.
  • Update:  Peptamen Junior vanilla and Nutren Junior vanilla have arrived in the new format.  Nutren Junior Fibre w/ Prebio vanilla, Compleat Pediatric, and Peptamen Junior 1.5 are still to come.
  • Novasource® Renal has been repackaged and reformulated.  The current 1 Litre bottle will transition to the 1 Litre Ultrapak® system.  The new formulation contains higher protein than before, and the sodium, potassium, and chloride content have been standardized for the 237mL Tetra Brik® and 1L Ultrapak® closed system container.  To see a comprehensive list of changes, please click here.

Mar 26/12 - SPDC is completely out of Compat Baggles which have been discontinued.

Feb 15/12 - SPDC will no longer carry Scandishake Strawberry.  The chocolate and vanilla flavours remain available.

Ensure Prebiotics has a new name.  It is now called Ensure w/ scFOS.  As well, the format will be changing to six Hicone bottles per pack instead of a bundle.  Ensure Plus will now be known as Ensure Plus Calories.  Formulations remain the same.


Kangaroo Pumps and Pump Sets

Many of you have heard that the manufacturer of Kangaroo pumps has discontinued the 224, 324, and Pet pumps. Enteral feeding bags and proximal spike pump sets are also slated to be discontinued, but the latest word is that stock should be available until August 2012. The vendor has assured SPDC that we will be given several months' notice of any product outages. Stay tuned as we will keep you updated whenever we hear any news.

If you have switched to a Kangaroo Joey pump, SPDC carries Joey bags (500mL and 1000mL) to go along with your new pump.  As well, we have the Kangaroo e-Pump sets and e-Pump proximal spike sets to replace the EasyCap pump sets and proximal spike sets.


New Thickener

SPDC has a new thickener in the line-up.  Thik & Clear® is a cellulose gum standardized with dextrin, and can be used to thicken hot and cold foods.  It reaches maximum thickness in five minutes, and will not break down in time.

Resource ThickenUp™ Clear is a thickener that is odorless, tasteless, lump-free, and amylase-resistant.  It leaves your thickened beverage looking and tasting the same.

Placing an Order
We recommend that you read our ordering policies prior to making any purchases from SPDC.  Please allow up to three working days to process (not receive) orders. Non-stock special order items usually take five working days, but may take up to three weeks.

Product Returns
April 1, 2011 - Please note that the original receipt is required for any exchange or refund within 60 days of the purchase date.


Important note about shipped orders:
Please check all items upon delivery and notify carrier, Loomis (formerly DHL), of any damaged or missing goods within 48 hours of receipt.  Call Loomis/DHL at 1-800-225-5345.

Quick Pick-Up:
To get in and out more quickly, you may call our office to pre-pay for your order before pickup.  There is no charge for parking if you exit the grounds within 15 minutes of entering. 

Our building has a new label. Instead of a 'C' on the outside, the entrance closest to SPDC is now called '79'. The new naming convention should make it easier for all visitors to find the building/service they are looking for.

Breast Pump Rental Program

Breast pumps and breastfeeding-related products


SPDC is pleased to offer expanded service hours for clients who wish to return a rental breast pump. Outside of SPDC's opening hours, pumps may be returned during the following times:

Mon - Fri                     6pm - midnight
Sat, Sun, & Holidays   10am-6pm

During our closed hours, come to Room C106, get a form from our door, and follow the instructions on the form.  Breast pump charges will be applied up to and including the day before return. So easy and convenient!

Freebie for New Moms!
Stay dry day or night. For each rental or purchase of a breast pump from SPDC, you will receive four Lansinoh disposable nursing pads at no charge.

Low Protein News:

April 13/12 - Unbeknownst to SPDC, the price of Cambrooke low protein foods has increased since 2009, and we have updated our prices accordingly.  

Kingsmill Wheat Starch and Kingsmill Unimix are now in stock.  Both are gluten-free and can be used as before in a variety of baked items.  Visit our Low Protein Foods page to check stock levels and see what foods are on sale!

Milupa lp-drink is a drink mix that acts as a milk substitute. It is:
  • low in protein
  • low in phenylalanine
  • contains calcium, iodine, magnesium, and vitamins
  • gluten-free
  • easily soluble in cold and hot water
  • suitable for cooking and baking

Tip: lp-Drink can be heated and foamed to make lattés and cappucinos!



Important message to all users of metabolic formulas:

Please advise us 3-4 weeks in advance of when you need another release of formula.  Many are not stocked by SPDC, and it can take several weeks to get specialized formula in.  Note that unused formulas that must be returned to the vendor will incur a 25% restocking fee which clients may be responsible to pay.

How to find SPDC:    Customer Parking   PDF map 

From off-site:  Enter through the gate on Heather Street.  Go straight until you arrive at the stop sign.  Go past the stop sign and down a gentle hill past the BC Women's Health Centre.  SPDC is located in the building labelled '79' at the bottom of the hill.  The two parking spots closest to the building are reserved for SPDC clients.  Complimentary 15 minute parking.

On-site:  SPDC is located in Room C106 in the same corridor as the cafeteria.  It is at the south end, on the left just before Health Information Services (formerly Health Records).
