September 2011- August 2012

APPLICATION DEADLINE: December 31, 2010

The Psychology Department at British Columbia’s Children’s Hospital is seeking applications for a one
-year post-doctoral fellowship in pediatric psychology – pain management starting September 2011.

BC’s Children’s Hospital is a tertiary, acute care hospital that is the province’s
major treatment, teaching, and research facility for children and youth with
complex medical and mental health problems. As a teaching hospital,
BC Children’s Hospital is affiliated with the University of British Columbia
and has strong academic links with the other provincial universities of Simon Fraser
and the University of Victoria. It is one of the largest health care centres in the
region, serving a diverse, multicultural population. The hospital is located in vibrant,
beautiful Vancouver, an urban centre located on the Pacific Ocean at the foot of
the Coastal Mountain Range.

This post-doctoral fellowship program offers advanced education and training in clinical
practice in pediatric psychology and specifically in pediatric pain management, within the
context of interprofessional collaborative practice. The focus will be on broad-based pediatric
psychology training, with an emphasis on specialty training in advanced assessment and
differential diagnosis of biopsychosocial issues in children and adolescents with complex
pain. The Fellow will work with inpatients and outpatients with an emphasis on applying
a developmental perspective to evidence-based practice.

The successful candidate will also practice transmission of skills and acquire solid
supervision abilities. The Fellow will take part actively in case conference presentations
of assessment findings, formulation, diagnosis and treatment plans. The Fellow will work
closely with other psychology trainees, as well as medical residents and other health
care professionals.

In addition to clinical training, opportunities for participating in collaborative research
related to pediatric pain management will be integrated into the fellowship curriculum.

A strong foundation in evidence-based child assessment and therapy training and
experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates who are graduates of
CPA or APA accredited Clinical Psychology doctoral programs and those that have
completed an APA or CPA accredited predoctoral internship. All degree requirements
must be completed before the start date. Canadian immigration regulations require that
preference be given to qualified Canadian citizens or landed immigrants. However, we
welcome applications from qualified non-Canadians. Compensation information is available
upon request. A comprehensive benefits package is included.
