What we do

Clinical services

  • Children’s: We act as independent consultants or as members of interdisciplinary teams. We provide diagnostic services, consultations, and short- and longer-term psychotherapy for children and their families dealing with acute and chronic medical conditions and with mental health and psychiatric disorders.
  • Sunny Hill: We work as members of teams to provide diagnostic and consultation services for children with developmental disabilities, neuromotor disorders, brain injuries, and for infants and children at risk. These services are provided both on site and as outreach to the child’s community.
  • Women’s: We work in reproductive psychiatry providing short term therapy to women and their partners going through a difficult pregnancy or postpartum period.

Training and continuing education

In addition to our clinical activities, we provide extensive training and continuing education opportunities:
  • Our Internship Program is accredited both by CPA and APA. We take a number of practicum students each year.
  • Periodically we fund and provide postdoctoral fellowship training opportunities and we teach graduate-level academic courses for students of the local universities.
  • We also provide a range of continuing education activities for members of the department and for professionals at both Children’s, Sunny Hill and in the community.

Research

We provide opportunities for members of the department to develop and participate in clinical research activities. One psychologist has earned major clinician-scientist investigator awards. We have also developed the Psychology Research and Evaluation Support Service to provide research support for other programs and units in the hospital.
