What we do
Children with allergic disorders come from all parts of BC. Most have a variety of complex allergic problems including:
Respiratory tract disease (e.g. asthma, rhinitis, recurring pneumonia, allergic broncho-pulmonary aspergillosis)
Gastro-intestinal disease (e.g. eosinophilic esophagitis)
Skin disease (e.g. atopic dermatitis, urticaria, unexplained skin eruptions)
Generalized symptoms (e.g. recurring infection; food, venom, medication and antibiotic reactions)
Anaphylaxis (acute, severe, often life-threatening reactions)
Clinical consultations
The clinical consultations involve information gathering, investigation, diagnosis and preparing a treatment plan. Specialists educate parents and children about allergen avoidance, use of inhaler devices, dietary modifications, and other therapy.
Usually consultations take one to two hours. A report is sent to the referring physician for ongoing care.
Referral to the clinic: There is a heavy demand for our clinic services. As a result, we require referring physicians to fax or mail a referral letter. Once we receive this information, we determine whether the situation is urgent, semi-urgent or routine. Urgent referrals are seen in two to three weeks and semi-urgent take three or four months.
