Dermatology

The Dermatology Clinic sees more than 3,000 children each year. The common type of skin conditions seen in the clinic include atopic dermatitis or eczema, psoriasis, molluscum contagiosum, warts, infantile hemangiomas and other types of birthmarks.

As a tertiary care centre, the clinic also provides care for less common diseases such as epidermolysis bullosa, dermatomyositis, ichthyosis, cutaneous scleroderma and cutaneous lupus erythematosus. Referrals are received from physicians throughout the province. Telephone and email consultations assist with the care of children who are unable to travel to Vancouver for assessment and treatment.

Phototherapy is available to children who are under the care of the staff dermatologist as well as to those referred by community-based dermatologists.

The inpatient service consists primarily of consultations, with a small number of admissions on an annual basis.

Dermatology is active in research and medical trainee education.
