Hemodialysis & plasmapheresis
After consultation with the renal specialists, children with kidney failure that require hemodialysis support are cared for by a highly skilled dialysis team. This team of specially trained doctors, hemodialysis nurses and technical staff are supported by child life, psychology and dietitian specialists.
Hemodialysis treatments are offered in the hospital in the Renal Dialysis Unit located in the hospital’s main building. Standard treatments consist of three to four visits per week for up to four hours per visit.
Specific kidney diseases, or recurrences of diseases, particularly after kidney transplantation are treated with plasmapheresis, another therapy provided by the Renal Dialysis Unit staff on an as-needed basis.
