Welcome to Sunny Hill!

This page will give you a bit of information on our facility and may answer some of your questions about what you can expect when you come to Sunny Hill.

If you still have questions after you've looked through these pages, please call the booking clerk who booked your appointment.

Thing to do while you're here
  • Relax in Family Place: A special place where kids and families can watch TV, play some games, or just relax. Family place has a microwave and a fridge you can use
  • Get some fresh air: When the weather is warm, you can enjoy our beautiful garden complete with waterfall and pond, and a wheelchair fun challenge circuit
  • Have a picnic in the park: Sunny Hill is located on 5½ acres and has a large treed lawn with picnic tables, a slide, swings, and a teeter-totter
  • Visit SHERC: Our on-site library where you can read and learn about disabilities. You can also borrow books and videos, and search the online catalogue to look for information before your visit
  • Enjoy a snack in our Cafeteria: Sunny Hill has a cafeteria that offers lunch and snacks such as sandwiches, pizza, soup, and muffins. As well we have some vending machines that contain snacks and drinks. Our newly-renovated cafeteria has two large microwave ovens, a toaster, and a kettle if you prefer to bring your own food. There are also some restaurants close to Sunny Hill if you have enough time to leave the campus.

Wash Your Hands!

Washing your hands is a great way to help keep you and your family from getting sick. Use lots of soap and warm water, and wash all over your hands. Rinse and dry your hands after. You can use our alcohol rub if you are in a hurry.
Handwashing
You should wash your hands:

  • after you use the washroom
  • before, during, and after you make a snack or a meal
  • before you eat
  • after handling animals or their waste
  • before and after touching your child
  • when your hands look dirty
  • after you sneeze or cough
  • before you enter your child's room (if your child is an inpatient) and again before you leave
Infection control

We ask visitors and family members NOT to come into the health centre if they have cold or flu symptoms such as cough, runny nose, vomiting or fever

Was Someone A Star?

At Sunny Hill, we like to thank people who go the extra mile so we created our Stars board - located on the second-floor wall just outside the inpatient unit. Was someone a star? Let us know! Email us the person's name, when and what he or she did, and why it was important to you, and we'll put his or her name and your comment up on the board.
No smoking

Smoke-Free

Sunny Hill is proud to offer a smoke-free environment. Smoking is not allowed in the building or on the grounds, even in your car. This is for the better health of everyone. If you want to kick the habit, there are many resources that can help you quit smoking.

Scent-Free

Sunny Hill is also scent free. Please don't wear perfume, cologne, or aftershave when you come to visit us.
