Community Services

Community Based Services

As well as providing specialized services, Sunny Hill also provides community early intervention therapy services and school therapy services to help fill gaps around the province. These services are provided on a contract basis.

Sunny Hill staff work with community teams to deliver assessment, treatment and consultation services to children and families. Sunny Hill is often contracted to help start up a new program and to assist in hiring staff to the program. In some cases Sunny Hill staff provide ongoing services to meet the service needs of children and families. In addition to providing a valued service, these programs offer a wide range of learning experiences for professional students and trainees.

Current services

  • Burnaby Infant Development Program - Provision of PT assessment and consultation services to families and infant development workers for infants with special needs.
  • Tri-cities School Therapy Program - Provision of OT and PT services for school age children with special needs who live in School District #43. Occupational therapists and physical therapists work with parents and school staff to help children with their education goals. Therapists also help children with their home and community goals.
Sunny Hill has a mandate to provide specialized clinical services under the umbrella of primary service delivery within the province’s child development and rehabilitation system.

Sunny Hill fulfils a primary service role in some communities on a contract basis. This is designed to fill gaps in services due to staff recruitment and retention difficulties or because of the lack of an established program structure and process.

In these cases, Sunny Hill assigns professionals or assembles groups of professionals to work with community teams to deliver assessment, treatment and consultation services to children and families. Sunny Hill is often contracted to start up a program (developing the service structure and process) and to assist in recruiting staff to the program.
