Therapeutic Recreation

Recreation Therapists offer consultation to children with disabilities, their families and community partners about the issues of inclusion into recreation, active living and sport activities. This includes identifying areas of interest, community service providers, barriers to participation, solutions to barriers, development of leisure education packages and information about different types of adapted equipment.

Aquatic consultations involve assessing swimming skills, providing ideas for teaching techniques, advice on floatation devices, identifying safety issues and pool access.

Recreation Therapists can also work with families and teachers to address inclusion issues related to participation in physical education classes.
