Tone Management
The Sunny Hill Tone Management Team is a provincial resource serving children from birth to age 19, and their families. Using an interdisciplinary approach, we assess children and offer recommendations around the complex, inter-related issues associated with tone issues including spasticity, Dystonia, muscle spasms and other movement problems.
This specialized service is accessed by a referral from a community pediatrician or other physicians involved in the child’s care. Family and therapists or involved caregivers are vital to gathering information and identifying goals and issues for the assessment.
The team provides information and education, links services, and reviews patients with community professionals or families with questions about services and care issues.
Tone abnormalities cannot be cured but there are many treatment options that can make your child's life more comfortable and allow him or her to participate in many activities and have more fun doing these activities.
Recommendations may include various therapies and other strategies that the family and community can perform such as oral medication trials, injectable medication trials and surgical interventions including intrathecal baclofen pumps. Recommendations may also include access to pediatric orthopedics or pediatric neurosurgery consultation.
