Dr. Andrew E. MacNeily MD FRCSC FAAP
Associate Professor of Surgery, University of British Columbia

Dr. MacNeily joined the faculty in the Division of Urology UBC in Sept 2000 as Head of Pediatric Urology, and Urology Residency Program Director. A graduate of Queen’s University Medical School, he completed his Urology residency at UBC, followed by fellowships in pediatric urology (Northwestern University) and Reconstructive Urology (London UK). After 6 ½ years of practicing adult and pediatric urology at Queen’s University, he returned to Vancouver to focus on pediatric urology and postgraduate medical education.

Dr. Kourosh Afshar MD FRCSC 
Assistant Professor of Surgery, University of British Columbia

Dr. Afshar is a graduate of the UBC Urology Program. He has also completed a two-year fellowship in pediatric urology at the Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto. Dr. Afshar joined our team at BC Children’s in July 2004 and is an assistant professor of surgery at UBC. He is the Director of Research for the Division of Urology at Children’s and has a diploma in clinical epidemiology from the University of Toronto. His areas of interest are laparoscopic surgery, renal transplant, genital reconstruction and clinical epidemiology.

Dr. J. Masterson MD FRCSC FACS
Clinical Professor of Surgery, University of British Columbia

Dr. Masterson graduated from the UBC Urology Residency Program in 1982, followed by a clinical fellowship at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore in 1983. Dr. Masterson returned to UBC and became the Postgraduate Director for several years and was a member of the examination committee for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Masterson’s interests are many, but his primary focus is pediatric stone disease and adolescent urology.

Maria Chaperon

Maria is Dr. MacNeily and Dr. Afshar's Administrative Assistant in the Urology Department. She joined the department with more than 17 years of experience as a Medical Office Assistant and has a wide variety of excellent office skills. This expertise allows Maria to organize clinic appointments, arrange necessary tests, book surgeries, and generally keep the staff on track. Her phone never stops ringing! She will likely be the first person you will speak to when you plan a visit to our clinic.


Danielle Baghaii

Danielle is Dr. Masterson’s Administrative Assistant. She has 10 years of medical office assisting experience and prides herself on keeping her office organized and runnning smoothly. She loves working with children and enjoys that she is able to assist in their care through her role in the office. Being an aunt to three nephews and two nieces as well as being an expectant mom herself has given Danielle the tools needed to ensure children and their families have a helpful and easy visit to the Urology Clinic.

Heidi Scott, BScN, RN

Heidi is the Nurse Clinician in the Urology Department. She has been employed at Children’s and Women’s Hospital since 2001. Heidi coordinates care and resources for urology patients and their families while they are in hospital, and when they are discharged home. She acts as a resource and consultant in the area of pediatric urology care for the hospital nursing staff and for nurses throughout the province. She is responsible for managing the urodynamic laboratory in the department. She conducts the urodynamic tests that are necessary for important treatment decisions. Heidi received her nursing diploma from Camosun College (Victoria) in 1996, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Victoria in 1999. She obtained a specialty certificate in perioperative nursing from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in 2003.
