The Trauma Program is dedicated to improving trauma care for injured children locally, regionally and provincially. Children’s provides care for thousands of injured children yearly. These injuries range from minor to severe.
Injury Prevention
Most injuries are predictable and preventable. The Trauma Program works with several programs to help decrease the number of childhood injuries. To learn more about injury prevention, see the For Families section.
Pre-Hospital
We continually work with BC Ambulance Service and other BC Health Authorities to ensure quality care and appropriate transfer of injured children.
Acute Care
The Trauma Program has developed a number of guidelines and protocols for internal hospital use. We provide staff education programs within our regional trauma system and provincially. Quality assurance reviews are performed continuously.
Rehabilitation
The Trauma Program has developed guidelines to ensure injured children receive the rehabilitation they require through our rehabilitation facility, Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children and BC Brain Injury.
