Sunny Hill Family Advisory Council
The Family Advisory Council (FAC) provides input to the administration about issues that affect families served by Sunny Hill Health Centre. The committee is made up of 10 to 12 parents, the Program Director, and an on-staff facilitator.
The council provides a forum to exchange information on issues of mutual concern to families and Sunny Hill and links Sunny Hill with the parent community. It provides input on the development and review of Sunny Hill policies and programs and guide Sunny Hill in providing family-centred care.
Each year, the council identifies a topic of interest to parents and assists in organizing a workshop. The purpose of the workshop is to learn new information and build support networks among families. Workshop topics have included transition planning for young adults, advocacy, information to help parents protect their child from sexual abuse, end-of-life decision making, and emotional development in children with disabilities. Recent workshops have been broadcast to other regions in the province via teleCDR.
