Family Services

Having a child with an illness can affect the whole family.  The issues are more than just medical.  These services are provided to support you, your child and your family. 

 

Child Life

The Child Life Department strives to make the hospital visit a more positive experience. The child life specialist prepares children, youth and families for life-altering events and upcoming procedures.

Ethics Service
The ethicists are here to help you when you have to make a difficult or confusing medical decision and there are different opinions about what is the best thing to do.

First Nation's Patient Advocate

The First Nation's Patient Advocate is here to assist Aborignal families get support and information.

Grief & Loss
Resources for children, teens and adults dealing with grief and loss. Includes the memorial pages where you can post a tribute in memory of deceased loved ones who have received care at BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre.

Interpreter Services
We have face-to-face and phone interpreting for those families who need to communicate in a language other than English.

Social Work
The Social Work Department is committed to improving the emotional, social, spiritual, and physical health of children, youth, and their families.

Spiritual Care
The hospital chaplains are are part of a multi-faith department available for emotional and spiritual support for families facing difficult and stressful situations.

Partners in Care Family Advisory

The Partners in Care Family Advisory (PiC) is a group of family members and hospital staff who are dedicated to promoting excellence in principles and practice of family centred care.

 

Sunny Hill Family Advisory Support
The Sunny Hill Family Advisory Group provides input to the administration about issues that affect families served by Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children.

Family Support Groups
A directory of family support groups throughout British Columbia.

Family Support Group Funding
A grant program available to families with children with a physical or mental disability/disorder who offer direct parent to parent support. 


Family Support & Resource Centre
This program provides patients and families throughout British Columbia with support, information and connections.
