Pre-admission Clinic
The Pre-admission Clinic helps gather important test information needed for surgery or a procedure. Not all children will be required to visit the clinic; however, if your doctor registers you with this clinic, a nurse will call you to make an appointment. The clinic visit takes place two to seven days before the surgery or procedure. Out-of-town patients have their appointment on the week day before the surgery.
What to bring
Clinic appointment information (i.e. doctor’s name and appointment time)
BC CareCard
Blue hospital ID card (if your child has one from a previous visit)
Immunization records
List of any medications, and the amounts, that your child is taking
Notepaper and pen
Medical or personal records, such as x-rays or lab tests. If you are unsure of what to bring, please call the clinic office.
Another adult to assist you, especially if you need to bring other children
Books, games, snacks, diapers, a change of baby clothes or other necessities to keep your child occupied while waiting
The clinic visit will take from one to three hours, depending on the number of tests needed.
What happens at the clinic
Your child’s weight, height, blood pressure and pulse will be measured and recorded.
The anesthetist explains the anesthetic to you and answers questions.
If your child needs to see any other health care professionals, we arrange for this to happen on the day of the clinic visit.
Your child has any tests or x-rays the surgeon needs.
You can get answers to any questions or concerns. If you have information to share about your child, talk with your doctor or nurse during your clinic visit
