Sunny Hill assessments & visits
Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children is a rehabilitation centre for children and youth with disabilities. Sunny Hill is called a “tertiary referral centre” because it complements the health care services provided in your community.
Preparing your child for an assessment
A typical assessment usually takes several hours over the course of the day. Sometimes the assessment may need to be scheduled over two days. Your child should wear comfortable shoes and loose comfortable clothing.
During the assessment, you will be asked about your child’s development, strengths and areas of difficulty. You may want to bring a friend or relative as a support person with you.
Your child will be asked to complete some activities and tests and he or she will be observed while playing. This will help the team understand how your child learns and is developing. If your child is scheduled to see the developmental pediatrician, a neurological and physical examination will also be scheduled. No medical investigations will be done at this time.
