BC Children's is part of the health care response for the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, including caring for COVID-19 positive patients and developing different COVID-related provincial guidelines for children. We are also, testing for COVID-19 at the collection site at the hospital and have transformed care delivery during the pandemic, increasing the use of virtual care and resuming patient care and research activities that were paused or reduced during the first wave of the pandemic in Spring 2020, as appropriate, including increasing the numbers of surgeries and procedures performed.

B.C. launched a new mouth rinse and gargle sample collection
for school-aged children, making testing for COVID-19 easier for parents and children. Provincial Lab Medicine Services, the Public Health Lab, BC Children's Hospital and BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) worked together to launch the program, which was the first of its kind in Canada.
