For the first time in BC, a collection of 500 French language health and wellness resources are now available and can be ordered online.
Francophone Services of the Provincial Health Services Authority is able to make the collection available thanks to $10,000 in funding from the Francophone Affairs Program – a joint federal-provincial funding partnership.

“Our government is proud to support and develop Francophone health-related resources, initiatives and activities across the province,” said Norm Letnick, the Minister responsible for Francophone/Intergovernmental Affairs. “These new resources will continue our work in enhancing the vitality of the Francophone community across BC.”

Hardcopies of these resources are housed at the Family and Support Resource Centre at BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre in Vancouver. They can be borrowed free of charge for up to 30 days, or shipped anywhere in BC, with free return postage. The collection, which is the largest of its kind west of Quebec, covers topics such as child development, healthy eating, illnesses, mental health, child health, pregnancy, family yoga and much more. A variety of children’s books are also available.

“This new listing of online resources are a part of our continued effort to increase access to health and wellness resources to all British Columbians,” said Barb Fitzgerald, Chief Nursing Officer & Head Interprofessional Practice & Patient Experience, BC Children’s Hospital and BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre “We are proud to support the Francophone community and French newcomers of British Columbia.”

Since 2005, Francophone Services has provided French-speaking British Columbians a direct access point to health and wellness related services and resources, while enhancing the capacity of the health care system to deliver appropriate services in French and better serve the community through partnerships and collaborations.
