A boo-tiful Halloween at BC Children's and BC Women's hospitals

Halloween was different this year at BC Children's Hospital and BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre due to the pandemic, but there was no lack of enthusiasm about making the celebration great for patients.

Amazing costumes could be seen across campus and some even made videos to accompany their costume theme. Check out the above video from the Pediatric Surgery team and not-to-be-missed solo by Pediatric Surgeon Rob Baird, as Ariel!

Instead of the large trick-or-treat event, we opted for more COVID-safe activities on Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31 that included "Boo Boxes" for patient areas. They were filled with both edible and non-edible treats. Approximately 4,500 gift bags were handed out to children who wanted to participate. Screeners were dressed up at seven different entrances and the Teck Acute Care Centre held a fun Zoom dance party.

"We delighted in the costumes across campus by both teams and individuals who took the time to dress up and, in many cases, created elaborate team themes that dazzled. Everyone has been declared a winner," says Mary MacKillop, director of Patient Experience at C&W.

"You made a real difference when normalcy was needed more than ever- true gratitude."
