The famous pirate from “The Pirates of the Caribbean” movie, played by actor Johnny Depp, was greeted by three very special guides Aidan Chin, Madison Kertcher and Logan Lay who, having all been patients at the hospital, gave the pirate the lay of the land.
The group took Captain Jack Sparrow to a special pirate party, where kids were decked out in hats and patches--some even challenging the pirate to a duel. After visiting with dozens of kids, the pirate continued on to one-on-one visits in the oncology, general pediatrics and neurology units. The charismatic pirate charmed patients and their families alike for nearly six hours, leaving smiles and laughter in his wake.
“Meeting Captain Jack was a dream come true for my daughter,” said Sarah Kertcher, mother of 7-year-old “First Mate” Madison. “He never broke character once and was so generous with his time. He was truly here for the kids and it brought tears to my eyes to see how special he made each one feel."
This is the day we will always remember as the day we almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow!
The visit to BC Children's took place on a day off Depp had from filming an upcoming movie in Vancouver.
