They are one of six winners of the Nursing Week Awards, an annual award program to recognize excellence in nursing at BC Children’s and BC Women’s.
Jayne and Jenny support children and families and model resilience. They operate a peer support camp for children with chronic illnesses.
“Peer support is one of the most healing and important aspects of care,” said Jayne.
With an understanding of individual strengths and challenges, they help team members approach difficult situations in an informed, holistic and nonjudgmental way. They manage to work seamlessly with a large group of physicians, trainees, administrative staff, researchers and allied health care professionals. They also provide mentorship and training to nurses pursuing specialized pediatrics.
In celebration of the nursing family at PHSA, poet Julia Pileggi has collected some of their stories and used them as inspiration for a spoken word performance that touches on heart-warming and heartbreaking aspects of nursing.
