HipHOPE

The HipHOPE is an international network of surgeons and medical professional dedicated to improve outcomes for pediatric hip conditions globally. The network runs the International Hip Dysplasia Registry (IHDR), is a multi-centre project with global impact, led by Dr. Kishore Mulpuri and Dr. Emily Schaeffer. Based at BC Children's Hospital, this registry has 27 participating sites spanning 7 countries and 5 continents. Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is one of the most common pediatric hip conditions; the work of IHDR allows for knowledge sharing, data exchange, and in-depth study of DDH to further knowledge of this condition while promoting best practices for treatment. In 2019, the network began development and knowledge exchange with IHDR sites in China, including the instigation of a future Surgeon Education Exchange program. The network is also working to develop DDH specific-care pathways as resources available at these Chinese sites, with a goal to standardize care and improve outcomes in patients with DDH.
