Directions & Parking

BC Children’s Hospital provides care at the  hospital site on Oak Street, and at Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children on Slocan Street.
BC Children's

We are under construction

Many parts of the hospital are under heavy construction, and parking is limited. Please allow plenty of extra time for locating a parking spot, purchasing a ticket and walking to your appointment.

Help us keep our hospital campus safe for everyone: please follow the posted speed limit (20 km/h) on the ring road, and obey traffic flaggers in construction areas.

You can visit the hospital’s Redevelopment Project website for construction updates.

Site map & getting around

  • The Campus Directory Map shows doors around the hospital and what each building is for.
  • There are three entrances from the road: Heather Street, Oak Street, and West 28th Avenue. The new entrance at Willow Street and West 32nd Avenue will open in autumn 2015.
  • All doors have a number seen from the street. The drop-off area for BC Children's is Door 17.

If a BC Children's clinic is not on the map, please contact your clinic for more information or visit the clinic's page on this website.

One-way ring road

There is a one-way ring road that circles the entire site; traffic flows counter-clockwise. This ensures the safe passage of everyone on site during construction.

The Wayfinding Map will help you find the roadway entrance and parking area closest to where you are going. Please plan accordingly and follow the direction of one-way traffic flow.

Navigation assistance

  • We have Navigation Volunteers to help you find your way in the hospital
  • Available Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Find them at the two information desks: nearby Door 11 (in the BC Children's lobby) and Door 77 (near the BC Women's Health Centre)
  • Use the Site Services and Travel Options map to find the locations of the Navigation Volunteers

Parking

Parking at BC Children’s is a “pay-by-stall number” system, and pay parking is in effect 24 hours a day. Use the Wayfinding Map to help you plan where to park.

  • Park in any 'Patients Only' stall
  • Remember your stall number
  • Go to the nearest parking meter and touch the screen to activate the meter
  • Input stall number
  • Scroll through menu to find the appropriate rate
  • Pay the required rate by exact coin or credit card (Note: the dispenser does not accept debit cards and it does not provide change)
  • Keep your receipt with you; you do not need to return to your vehicle to display the receipt
  • Hourly & daily rates

    • $1.75 per 1/2 hour
    • $14.25 for 24 hours

Did you buy a 24 hour or long-term parking pass, but need to come and go during this period? That's ok!

    • When you return to the hospital, and if the original stall for which you paid is taken, park in any other "patient only" stall and display the original parking ticket receipt.

    • You can park in this new stall for the duration of the time stated on your original receipt.

    • Place this receipt face-up on your dashboard. Please make sure the entire receipt is visible, to avoid getting a parking ticket.

    Long-term parking pass options

    • 7 Day Pass $63.75
    • 30 Day Pass $115
Financial hardship permits may be available on a case by case basis. Please talk to your unit social worker for more information.
