The new Sunny Hill Health Centre at BC Children's Hospital will be an innovative, family-centred facility that will continue to provide specialized developmental assessments and rehabilitation care to children, youth and their families from across the province of British Columbia.

Benefits to patients and families

  • Sunny Hill's new location will enable collaboration and coordination with other BC Children’s services to provide more integrated care for our patients.
  • Families will no longer spend time travelling from one location to the other for their BC Children’s and Sunny Hill medical appointments.
  • Sunny Hill staff and physicians will also no longer need to travel between facilities, and will be able to spend more time with patients.
  • Overall, the move will facilitate a more cohesive and seamless experience for our patients and their families.

In the new facility, Sunny Hill patients will benefit from unique resources that have been purpose-built for their specific needs:

  • a fully accessible therapy pool with movable floors
  • an open-concept gym with a fun, multi-purpose therapy environment and seamless access to a patio
  • an interactive therapy garden for mobility training
  • a high-tech motion analysis lab
  • a family-focused lounge with space for child play

The new Sunny Hill includes spaces specifically designed to accommodate the needs of children and youth who have hearing, visual and sensory disabilities or sensitivities.

BC Children's Hospital Foundation's Sunny Hill Enhancement Initiative

In support of the redevelopment of Sunny Hill, BC Children’s Hospital Foundation raised an additional $14 million to create a healing environment to meet the unique needs of Sunny Hill patients and their families. The Foundation’s Sunny Hill Enhancement Initiative will help enhance the therapy spaces described above, and provide advanced technologies and state-of-the-art equipment.

Children's Healing Experience Project

The Foundation's Sunny Hill Enhancement Initiative will also fill Sunny Hill with artwork, including murals, sculptures and interactive displays, specifically designed to meet the needs of kids and families during assessment and treatments, which will help calm, soothe and provide positive distraction when needed.

The relocation of Sunny Hill is part of the BC Children's and BC Women's Redevelopment Project, a joint initiative of the Province of British Columbia and the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA).

Clinical experts, patients, families, staff, and the public provided input on the project to ensure we created clinically best practice, patient-centered spaces.

If you have questions, concerns or inquiries about the Redevelopment Project, contact 1-855-857-3897 or cwredevelopment@cw.bc.ca.
