Physiotherapy Clinic Referral
We provide specialized outpatient physiotherapy services to children with:
- Developmental delay or muscle weakness requiring a physiotherapy assessment or screen
- Gait abnormalities in children under school-age who do not have an associated underlying diagnosis
- Torticollis in:
- Infants who reside in Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond or other underserviced areas, or
- Children requiring a second opinion from other regions, or
- Children who require a tubular orthosis for torticollis (TOT) collar assessment, or
- Children with torticollis requiring surgery
- Acute and/or complex musculoskeletal conditions that cannot be adequately assessed and treated in the community
Referral overview
A primary care provider such as a physician or nurse practitioner can make a referral. We may also accept referrals from community physiotherapists for a second opinion.
We will review internal referrals from other departments within BC Children’s Hospital for eligibility on a case-by-case basis. These include respiratory, plastic surgery, orthopedics or other departments.
We triage and book all referrals according to urgency.
The clinic is primarily a consultation service and does not provide ongoing outpatient rehabilitation care.
Conditions referred elsewhere include:
- Non-complex and non-acute conditions that can be adequately assessed and treated in the community
- Children who have funding from other programs, such as the At Home Program, Registry of Autism Service Providers or Community Brain Injury Program
Referral steps
Primary care providers can write their own referral, including the patient's demographics and reasons for referral, and fax it to the clinic. Please fax referrals to 604-875-3220, attention Physiotherapy.
No further action is needed following the submission of a referral. The clinic will reach out directly to the family to book an appointment.
