Dr Emmanuel Murwanashyaka is a Rwandan Orthopedic Surgeon, who graduated from medical school at the former National University of Rwanda and completed his residency training in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Rwanda. He is also a fellow of the College of Surgeons of East, Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA).

Emmanuel is passionate about teaching medical students and residents, as well as in doing research. He is a founder and President of "Heal Osteomyelitis Africa", which is a Rwandan-based NGO focusing on treating patients with osteomyelitis through surgical outreach and teaching primary care providers the management of osteomyelitis.

His fellowship training has prepared him for a career in pediatrics as a leading clinician, educator and researcher. His future goals are focused on improving the care of children with musculoskeletal conditions and teaching his Rwandan colleagues how to best practices in treating them. Emmanuel will also continue to provide care for patients with osteomyelitis and improve orthopedic research through local and international collaborations. Importantly, Emmanuel feels that this training has equipped him with the knowledge and skills to work to help reach his countries goal of increasing the health human resource capacity by spearheading the development of a pediatric orthopedics surgery fellowship program in Rwandan, and expanding this to colleagues across East Africa. He is excited to continue to work with his mentors from BC Children's Hospital and to be able to reach out to his new network of colleagues he has established with his cohort of fellows from around the world.
