In 2018, the University of British Columbia and the University of Rwanda established a partnership to promote and foster the development of training for medical trainees. This partnership supports knowledge exchange and capacity building by providing travel opportunities to trainees from Rwanda for further training in BC and for trainees and faculty from UBC to complete electives and placements at UR. In 2020, after the COVID-19 pandemic prevented in-person opportunities, the partnership expanded to include a virtual learning platform to ensure the continued professional development of local and global medical professionals during the pandemic and beyond.
