We provide cardiac care to children in communities across BC.
The BC Children's Hospital Provincial Partners program provides the same level of cardiology service families can expect from BC Children's Hospital without the added stress of travelling to the Lower Mainland, truly bringing care closer to home for the children of BC and the Yukon.
During the 2018-2019 financial year, we held 71 clinic days, hosted 834 consultations, and performed 574 echocardiograms using a portable echocardiograph machine generously donated by the BC Children's Hospital Foundation. The BC Children’s Hospital cardiology team also held 71 clinic days in Surrey, BC.
Patients are typically infants, children and youth who are referred due to:
- symptoms of structural or electrical heart conditions
- family history of inherited heart conditions
- congenital heart defects, heart function issues, acquired heart disease or electrical heart conditions that require long-term surveillance and follow up
- Surgical heart patients prior to surgery and post-surgery follow up.
A team comprised of a pediatric cardiologist, nurse clinician and an echocardiographer travel throughout BC and the Yukon to provide services to people in:
- Prince George
- Fort St. John
- Williams Lake
The team also provides Continuing Medical Education lectures and nursing educational sessions to the local health care professionals in conjunction with the clinics.
