Shapedown BC

The Shapedown BC program promotes healthy living for the entire family.
About

The Shapedown BC program is a family-centred healthy lifestyles program for children, teens and their families. There are NO DIETS involved.

Our group-based 10-week program involves weekly educational and interactive sessions that cover the following topics: nutrition, parental limiting setting, screen time, sleep, physical activity, body image and self-esteem, family meals, and communication. All sessions are facilitated by a registered dietitian and a mental health specialist.

Families also take part in weekly family fun activities hosted by the local YMCA (or local community recreation centre).

Children and families are eligible for the program if they meet the following criteria:

  1. Children/adolescents between 6-17 years of age
  2. Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 97th percentile, or a BMI between the 85th and 97th percentile with certain medical conditions present.

Both parents and child/teen must be prepared to make changes and attend on a regular basis.
